Infogrames Shuts Down AtariLabs
friday, april 19, 2002
It was just over a year ago, that Infogrames sent the
infamous letter to atarilabs.com requesting that the "cybersquatting"
webmaster turn over the Domain Name. Infogrames actually backed down once
they realized it was a legitimate website once world reknowned for it's
retro gaming information. Infogrames has now pulled the plug on the AtariLabs
group and can safely say that they don't need the Domain anymore. In related
news, Andre Salcedo left SOE yesterday.

3DO Lay-Offs of Might and Magic
by Various
friday,
april 12, 2002
It's been ages since the original 3DO system came out and planned to take
over the video game market with it's slick digital images that Jeff Rotter
and K.Lee would personally try to sell you. In the last 12 months, we
have seen 3 lay-offs from 3DO, including the lay-offs yesterday. Rumors
are flying and claims that 1/2 of the Might and Magic team has been let
go. Other rumors insist that 3DO's entire European office has also been
cut.

Xbox down, GameCubed sales
from gamersmark.com
wednesday,
april 10, 2002
For the month of March PS2 again came out as the leader in the home console
market. The PS2 continues to sell in strong numbers selling 65,000 units
in March. Coming in second in the home console market is Nintendo's tiny
console the Nintendo GameCube with sales risen above 32,000 units to beat
out Microsoft's Xbox by only a mere 4,000 units. This is the first time
since launch that the GameCube have surpassed Microsoft's console in sales
. Market analysts have already begun speculation that the reason for the
Xbox's sales decline are the result of the poor European and Japanese
launches but this seems highly unlikely...Nintendo's GameBoy ADVANCE sales
increased from the month of February to once again pull off incredible
numbers. The AGB pummeled its big brother by a 4:1 ratio with a massive
116,000 thousand units.

Maria Hernandez turns Japanese
thursday,
april 4, 2002
In what appears to be a very Maria Hernandez-type move, Maria Hernandez
is leaving her duties at SCEA and will be joining the much overpacked
area known as Japan. Her travels will only span over a year. Many details
were left out because i don't have the full story yet. Maybe someone can
send me the details. As we say in Nihongo, "So long, sucker."

Erik Zwerling on GDC 2002
wednesday, april 3, 2002
In what appears to be Gamelord.org's best feature story ever, Erik Zwerling
writes about his first GDC experience. This can be found in the Features
section. "I had been looking forward
to my first visit to the Game Developer's Conference for the past few
months. While I couldnot afford to buy a pass to attend all the conference
sessions and workshops, I was excited about being able to walk the exhibit
floor and attending some of the free lectures that were included with
the purchase of an Expo Pass.click here for more....

Laura Naviaux and Chris Sturr Engaged
tuesday,
april 2, 2002
Eat your heart out suckers, this ain't no April Fools joke. Laura Naviaux
and Chris "Sturrgeon" Sturr are engaged to be married. Sturr
popped the question on Saturday morning, a thousand feet over Napa Valley
in a hot air balloon. Laura was completely surprised and had no idea this
was coming.
From Laura, Thanks to our friend Bob Johnson I thought we were
taking a holiday train ride through the vineyards. I guess I should have
seen all the hints - the lack of a train station, the large balloon at
the entrance, the trucks pulling out the equipment and the fact that my
mom insisted on painting my nails at 10pm the night before. Anyway, to
make a long story short, it was a complete fairytale day, even though
the shock of the question kept me from saying yes until I had the ring
on and Sturr had been on his knee for what seemed like an eternity. Post

David Gray Leaves EA
friday, april 1, 2002
Yesterday, David Gray - Not the Singer - celebrated his last day as an
EA employee. In his fairwell address, he says to his onlookers, "Do
not grieve. Soon... I shall be one with the Matrix - The Matrix of Power
and Lighting." Gray refers to Pacific Coast Power and Lighting where
he is joining long time friend, Kim Rogers. David Gray is best known for
his work at Sega and his friendship with Kim Rogers. He is also known
for his recent work on Battletech. He ends his fairwell address with,
"Now all I need is a little energon and a lot of luck." Uh,
Dave, those are Mechs or Mechwarriors, not Autobots. Thanks.
