Atari's Last
Hurrah
Midway Games bought Milpitas-based Atari Games (the arcade group,
not the computer/Jaguar home consumer group) some time ago. As part
of the deal, projects that Atari continued to work on would continue
to come out under the Atari label. However, we've been informed
that Rush 2049 will be the last game under the Atari logo. The upcoming
golf game (similar to Golden Tee Golf) will be using the Midway
logo instead. With Atari close to releasing another Gauntlet-update
this fall, it will be interesting to see what logo that game gets.
Arguably Gauntlet has the most franchise recognition among Atari's
line of games.

Rumor: The Big Bustowski from
fatbabies.com
Electronic Arts, the FBI, and the US Marshalls busted up a counterfeit
piracy ring based out of EA's offices! That's right, one of the
EA Test Supervisors (who clearly had access to all of the latest
builds of product), was running CD's that had just gone gold to
a Test rep at Sony Computer Entertainment America. Apparently this
Sony guy had contacts at a duping facility in Asia called Paradigm.
The bootleggers would then dupe the CD's, create bogus packaging,
and flood the Asian markets with EA and Sony product.

Shadowman
Launch Party from
Acclaim.net
The Red Devil
Lounge on the corner of San Francisco's Polk and Clay, a seedy black
and red dive in which you might have found Mike LeRoi drowning his
sorrows, was the site of the Shadow Man launch party. A mid-summer
night's toast to the game IGN64 has given 9 out of 10 stars, a grand
fete to celebrate a night of triumph - the release of Shadow Man
for the N64 (in stores now), PC (in stores Friday), and the PlayStation
(coming soon). It was a perfect San Francisco night, cool, with
a low fog; the kind of night to inspire romance or in which long
friendships are cemented over a drink or two. Harry Kinney and Chris
Severson were found discussing the party.

Marc Sherrod
Follows others to the Promised Land
One by one the
employees of SCEA and 989 Studios follow the yellow brick road that
takes them to 3DO. Mark Sherrod, the latest of these 989 employees
to make the move, has accepted a job as Associate Producer and plans
to use his Japanese Skills to the best of their abilities. Insider,
Ron Allen, claims that Marc Sherrod's decision to leave 989 was
due to news of Alben Pedroso's new "Golden Boy" position.
Ron goes on to mention how Alben was to skip Playstation 2 development
so that he can start Playstation 3 development to get the jump on
everyone. Prelude was also on hand to confirm this news. However,
Prelude, who is not known to be confrontational, was unwilling to
collaborate on the story and threatens to sue gamelord.org if his
name is used to confirm such an event.

ask Julius for anything, you have to remember that he works at "Julius

Julius has currently answered 3 of his 30 questions and for Julius,
is off to a fast start.
You see
him pictured above begging us not to ask him why his girlfriend,
"Yukio" giggles when Julius lays on top of her. It's a
pretty obvious answer as most girls will do the same when they see

GT Interactive No Longer in Good Times from
fatbabies.com
The big story on the street is who's going to buy out GT Interactive.
The giant mostly-PC software publisher has been strapped for cash
since recent financial losses, and CEO Tom Heymann has been actively
looking to one of two options: to sell the company, or to seek re-capitalization.
Sources indicate both Mattel and Hasbro have been the two companies
most interested in GT, although they haven't been entirely aggressive
about pursuing the floundering company. Even with recent successes
Total Annihilation: Kingdoms for the PC and Driver for the PlayStation,
its bottom line still doesn't look stable. Expensive internal studios
such as Oddworld Inhabitants and poor sales of key PSX games like
Rogue Trip and Streak from Salt Lake City-based Singletrac have
played a key role in the current financial situation. But is there
more than meets the eye? GT isn't a Transformer, but rumors are
that shadey deals, nepotism, and overpaid & underworked contractors
at its NY headquarters are the real reason behind its predicament.
Our ears are to the ground on this one...

Bernie Stolar
has left the Building
Sega of America
announced on Wednesday that effective immediately Toshiro Kezuka
has been named vice-chairman and chief operating officer of the
company - replacing Bernie Stolar. Bernie Stolar is no longer with
Sega of America. Although there was no comment by Sega in regard
to Stolar's leaving the company, a spokesperson clarified one issue:
Sega of America no longer has a president. According to Sega, the
president position once filled by Stolar is no longer necessary.
As COO of the company, Kezuka will completely assume Stolar's responsibilities.
Kezuka was previously president of Honda France. He joined Sega
Enterprises in 1995 and worked in domestic sales and distribution.
He then (earlier this year) moved to Sega of America and was named
deputy chairman of the company. According to a Sega spokesperson,
"Kezuka's knowledge of the European and Japanese markets make him
the ideal COO for Sega. He will help improve Sega become a more
global company." In regards to what happened, a release issued by
Sega firmly states that, "It is Sega's policy not to comment on
personnel decisions." Under benign conditions, companies normally
announce the departure of a high-ranking official and that person's
future professional plans. Considering that the company did not
divulge details about Stolar's departure, it appears that Stolar
may have been terminated rather than resign from his position.

Rumor: It's
Radical, dude! from fatbabies.com
The group is in trouble financially, so their head man's primary
job is to seek a deal that will keep the company alive and in business.
The group, since they already have the ESPN license from Disney,
is making sports games in order to compete with EA & 989 Studios.
So who does Ribero try and cut a deal with? None other than their
primary competitor Electronic Arts. Pretty lame, in our opinion.
EA was apparently scared about what Radical was doing, and they
were afraid the ESPN license would take a large portion of their
business away. Ribero met with EA management on several occasions
to try and cut a deal that would bring the ESPN license to EA, while
at the same time having EA buy out Radical Entertainment. However,
in a major faux paus, he disclosed to them the dire financial position
Radical was in. In addition, Ribero was so confident in his deal
with EA that he stopped all negotiations with other companies, thereby
putting all Radical's eggs in one basket. The real truth was that
EA wasn't interested in Radical at all--they only wanted the ESPN
license. They stalled the talks, fully knowing the financial situation
of Radical. After Radical closed its doors, Ribero conveniently
went over to EA as a Vice President. This one source indicates that
Ribero was paid off by EA to drain Radical, and in return he was
promised a VP position at EA. (Ribero still held the ESPN license
card that EA wanted so badly.) When it became clear Ribero couldn't
deliver the ESPN license, EA told him to get lost.
Sony's Back
9 by Sherri Suto
In SCEA Executive Golf Tournament last night, many third party industry
stars show up for a free meal and a round of golf. Many stars including
John Miller, Phil Harrison, Kelly Flock, Rob Dyer, Andrew House,
Shawn O'connor, Kathleen Lynch, Ami Blaire, and Connie Booth could
be seen at this gala event. Teasing contestants with a Mercedes
and 5000 dollars in cash for hole-in-one's and the like, many were
expected to show up, invited or not. Winners of the Longest Drive
contest were Doug Rebert of Konami and Shawn House of Midway. Perry
Rogers receives a not so elegant plaque for placing high in the
putting contest. Phil Harrison, the MC for the Prize Give-away,
hands off a Toy Golf Set to Andrew House for the most Outstanding
Effort award. House's reply, "Is this big enough?" on
his new set of clubs and Phil Harrison's remark to Kelly Flock as
he came to claim his prize, "Last time I checked, Sony owns
989 Studios." Chris Colon could also be found on hand looking
for stuff that could be "FREEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" Sega also
had a hand in the event as they donated golf balls to the Tourney.

Alexander Neff from Julius Willis
my source for this rumor may be 'too coo' but he's definitely whacked
as he is trying to figure a way out of his impending wedding. his
mood swings more often than not, and his outlook on life of late
has been quite bleak. bleaker than bleak actually, i just don't
have the word for that state of mentality. so, my question is, how
do i cheer up my "wedeth row" friend when even gossip doesn't seem
to do it anymore. your time is appreciated. please do not print
this on your fabulous webpage, as 'too coo' is embarassed enough
when i tell everyone here at work that he does not want to get married.
(and this fact is also the reason why he is a know-it-al, because
if he is going to do something so wrong in his life, then by god,
he is going to be right about everything else.)
Gamelord.org takes no responsibilities
for this report from Julius.
