3DO Files Chapter 11
friday,
may 30, 2003
Video game publisher 3DO Co. (NasdaqNM:THDO - News) on Wednesday said
it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and would seek to sell
either the company or its assets. Although this is no real surprise as
rumors of their demise have been alive for years, it was a surprise to
employees who did not receive their final paychecks from the comapny.
In a statement, Hawkins said 3DO was pursuing either a sale of the company
or its assets and expected to continue to operate as it worked through
the Chapter 11 bankruptcy process. However, 3DO has no value as an aquisition
target as many have criticized them for making too many Army Men games
on short development cycles and not enough high quality games with longer
development cycles. Hawkins, who founded 3DO in the early 1990s, became
an industry legend for starting Electronic Arts Inc. In the book "Game
Over," author David Sheff recounts the tale of a 1989 meeting at
EA during which, under pressure from financial advisers, Hawkins removed
his shoe and began pounding it on the table, in the style of former Soviet
leader Nikita Khrushchev. The announcement of 3DO bankruptcy has given
EA stock prices a boost.
Counter-Strike Review
thursday,
may 22, 2003
As strange as it sounds, Gamelord.org has never reviewed the almighty
Counter-Strike. Even though there have been many stories about CS and
the clans of CS, Counter-Strike spent many years in Beta and beta is where
most of the hardcore gamers played it. Counter-strike has outlived all
of the predecessors and is still one of the most popular Multi-player
games on the net. With Condition Zero coming out this year, Keith hall
thought it was time to review the most popular online game ever made.

The Minkz Starts A New Business
monday, may 5, 2003
So I promised Minkz Ngo of Maxis that I would write a little blurb about
his new "business". Minkz is telling me that he's really serious
about this and he thinks it's really going to take off. It's something
about creating his own Unicorn T-shirts made of 100% Hemp or some shit.
Apparently, Greg Mccord told him he should come out of the closet and
start showing his inner self. Minkz was quoted as saying, "don't
hate the playa, hate the game." Anywayz,
You can see his new company website here.

Sega Corp., Japan's biggest maker of arcade video games, will merge with
pinball machine maker Sammy Corp. in preference to a recent proposal from

Sammy's assets is finished, the report said, citing unnamed people familiar
with the agreement.
