Tomb Raider Loses its Core
wednesday, july 30, 2003
The development house that created the world famous Tomb Raider franchise has been stripped of its biggest property and of its ties with publisher Eidos Interactive. With the announcement of the resignation of Core MD Jeremy Heath-Smith, Eidos has gone and taken away Core’s Tomb Raider franchise and given it to the current Legacy of Kain team at Crystal Dynamics, who plans on having a Tomb Raider title released by the end of the next financial year. Rumblings from as early as last year rumored that Eidos planned on stripping Core of the Tomb Raider franchise if Angel of Darkness would fail to meet expectations, which it oddly has not. In actuality, thanks to Core’s Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, Eidos will now meet its original operating profit forecasts for the year to 30th June 2003. However, you cannot deny the talent of Crystal Dynamics. Their next installment in the Legacy of Kain franchise may possibly be their best yet, and with amazing games found in that series, you better believe that’s a pretty big statement. So, this decision may have been move for the franchise and Eidos itself.

Xbox Stories at Microsoft
friday, july 18, 2003
A former Microsoft Corp. employee, from the Microsoft's Xbox division, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to falsely ordering software meant for internal use and selling it for personal profit, the third such incident since last December. Kori Robin Brown, 31, a former administrative assistant at the company's Xbox video console and games division, ordered more than $6 million worth of Microsoft's SQL Server database software and sold it for personal gain between 1998 and 2000. Brown sold the software to a third party for between $50,000 and $100,000. Brown, who was terminated by Microsoft after an internal investigation prior to December 2003, is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 3. She faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000. In Microsoft's quarterly earnings report, to be released later this week, the company has targeted 9 million shipments of its Xbox video game console by the end of June. Analysts, on average, expect in that report that the Redmond-based company announces a solution to slim down its cash reserves of more than $46 billion.
