To the players who dream of being the hollywood hero, racing against
time, kicking the door in and clearing rooms with a blazing self
loading submachine gun...., I'd love to meet you online. And you'd
be dead, dead, dead. This is a game for the swift, the silent, the
invisible. Tactics are real and this game is as real as it gets.
Sure, you could grab a squad automatic weapon and spray your enemy
with 5.56, but one fatal bullet can put you away. Its the knife
in the dark, the one shot kill, the well timed grenade, and the
superior teamwork that win the day.

Ghost recon
is a squad level tactical game. In single player mode, you are a
team leader. You pick your own team from a pool of semi-computer
run players. I say 'semi-computer run' because the non-player-characters
in this game follow your orders and can be taken over (player run)
at any point in the game. So, if you are in a team of 6, out to
destroy your enemies communications facility and you get shot, you
can take over control one of the remaining team members instead
of failing the mission or being left out of the game. This is nice,
but not very fair to the computer players. After all, it was you
who was dumb enough to get shot and not the computer! And you should
always take care of your team. Non-player characters (NPC's) gain
experience. A newbie NPC will wander off, shoot without orders,
or stand up in the open at inopportune moments. Experienced NPC
are better shots, sneak around better, and do exactly what you tell
them to do: like all good soldiers.

The AI in this
game is excellent. The bad guys just dont stand around and get shot.
If a buddie goes down, the others hide. And no charging the machine
guns. These guys will actually try and outflank you! The graphics
are first rate and while the scenarios are simple, they're realistic
and fun to play.
If you're looking
for fun at the end of a barrel, this is a game for you. |
